When a designer is inspired by nature, drawn towards the rich heritage of Indian handloom and is equally conscious of styling the young women, the result more often is splendid. We are pleased to present our Featured Artist of the week, Bhushavali. Her creations are vibrant, comfortable and read the pulse of the modern working women. The tagline of her shop is as interesting as her creations - 'What's yours is 100% only yours'?. Read on to learn more about this aspiring designer…

Bhushavali
1. A few lines about yourselves.
I am Bhushavali. A Fashion & Textile Designer by qualification & profession and wanderlust by passion.
I blog about Fashion, Style & Beauty and also about my trips & travel.
2. How according to you can we keep the Indian Handicrafts industry thriving.
The best way is to change it and twist it to suit the present taste of the people.
3. Handloom fabric but contemporary designs mark your creations! What was your inspiration behind bringing them together?
Being in India, I was brought up surrounded by tradition and heritage.
And of course, our heritage is so rich and perfectly suitable for the Indian Subcontinent.
Our textiles are so well suitable for our climatic conditions. There's no point trying to wear fabrics that don't absorb sweat and try to fight the heat & humidity sitting in air-condition. It’s always much better to go with the fabrics that are best suited for our heated up climatic conditions. The best for it is indeed Cotton, esp. Khadi cotton and Handloom.
And making our Mother Earth suffer, by dumping chemicals on her is again something that bothers me. So I design mostly with Natural Dyes, which is both Nature Friendly and Skin Friendly.
4. How do you decide on the color, style and pattern of your creations?
I do not follow trends. Classics are my favourites.
I make garments that are suitable throughout the year for all the seasons.
My styles are for the young women, who are concerned about being eco-friendly and look out for sustainable development of the nation. And at the same time they do not compromise on style.
My Colors, as I said earlier, are obtained from plants and flowers and soil, i.e.Nature. India is a colorful country and color surrounds us everywhere, from our ancient murals to textile heritage. Despite of our traditional colors being so wide in palette, it’s all subdued. It’s the same that I follow in my designs as well.

9. A tip or advice for other aspiring designers.
Follow your heart!!!
How important do you think is a formal degree in fashion and/or designing must for people interested in taking up designing as a career?
Many of the great designers in the Indian Design Arena do not have a formal design education. But they are awesome and have great design sensibilities.
A formal degree in fashion / designing helps to get all the technical skills and basic knowledge in a nutshell.
Its every individual's skill and yearning for knowledge that makes them grow.
